The Blues Scale
by Andy Webber

Here's a really useful scale that you need to know. It's called the blues scale and is very similar to the pentatonic scale. The only difference is that it has two extra notes. The video clip shows you the Em Blues Scale.

The only difference from the Em Pentatonic Scale is that there is are two B flats added in. Learn this new fingering and move it around the fretboard so that is can be played in different keys.

This extra note transforms the scale and adds an extra flavour to your soloing. It can also be used in riffs to give a more bluesey sound. I'l leave it up to you to play around with it and experiment!

Andy Webber.
